Good CCTV lighting is about matching the light to the scene, the camera and the job. Here's the practical difference between GJD's main illumination options.

IR / 850NM

Infrared illuminators

Dedicated IR lighting helps compatible cameras record clearer monochrome images after dark. It is useful where you need night coverage without flooding the scene with visible white light.

Choose it for: paths, yards, perimeters and poorly lit camera views.

VISIBLE LIGHT

White light illuminators

Visible illumination allows compatible cameras to capture colour at night. It can also help deter intruders, but you need to consider neighbouring properties and unwanted light spill.

Choose it for: entrances, forecourts and areas where colour matters.

IR + WHITE LIGHT

Hybrid illuminators

Combine infrared and white light in one fitting. Useful where the site needs flexible lighting, including normal IR footage and a visible response when an event is detected.

Choose it for: higher-risk locations where lighting needs can change.

Standard, PoE or IP?

Similar-looking illuminators can have very different installation and control requirements.

Standard

Typically wired to a suitable separate power supply. A straightforward option for existing wiring and conventional control.

PoE

Power comes through Ethernet cabling. This does not automatically mean the light has IP network control.

IP

Network-connected models provide additional settings and supported VMS integration. Check PoE power and compatibility.
